Animal Chiropractic

Animal chiropractic is a preventative approach for your animal’s health whether your animal was recently born or all the way into their golden years! Animals cannot talk to us and tell us what is going on, so having your animal seen by an animal chiropractor can help detect issues before they become a problem. Animals, just like humans, can have pain, weakness, be stressed, have issues moving around, and can struggle with many other things. However, staying on top of your animal’s health and getting your animal adjusted can help from these issues progressing.

Animal chiropractors evaluate the spine and extremities to find restricted joint movement. If the joint is not able to move properly, it is capable of causing pain, movement issues, gait abnormalities, changes in temperament, behavior, and sensitivity. Not only can these changes be in one location, but it can also affect the entire nervous system or organ functions. With a chiropractic adjustment, the goal is to make sure that these joints are moving properly and that the body is balanced, so the nervous system can function at its 100%. This will allow our animals to have proper mobility and performance, so they can age with grace.

“The power that made the body heals the body”

BJ Palmer

  • With chiropractic care, chiropractors focus on the nervous system, which consists of the brain and spinal cord. We want to make sure that there is not an interference in the nervous system; otherwise, the body will not be able to function at its best. The nervous system controls how the body + organs function and respond to stress.

To remove stress in the body, chiropractors are able to provide specific and gentle adjustments and remove subulaxtions (misalignments) in the body. Our goal is to remove the stress (chemical, emotional, or physical) that can cause hyperactivity or hypoactivty and help the body achieve balance.

There is no way to avoid all of life stressors, but we want our animal’s body to be able to respond and adapt to their environment in an appropriate manner.

  • Thoughts (Emotional)

    Tramas (Physical)

    Toxins (Chemical)

  • Dr. Katherine sees all different types of animals! Horses and dogs are the two most common animals that are thought of with chiopractic, but many animals, with a spine can be adjusted.

    -Horses
    -Dogs
    -Cats
    -Sheep
    -Goats
    -Cattle
    -Pigs
    -Rabbits
    -Turtles
    -And many more!!

Whether they are market, breeding, companion, or show animals, animals that have a spine and a nervous system have the potential of benefiting from an adjustment.

  • Of course! Think about how these animals are brought into the world, through the stressful birthing process. Also, in learning how to thrive, they must adapt to the environment which can be challenging in many ways. Chiropractic care can assist them through the process as their minds and bodies develop.

*Complementary adjustment for puppies or foals/colts if mom is adjusted within 30 days of giving birth! Mom or one other animal must also be adjusted at baby’s visit.

  • Yes! Adjusting livestock can benefit the entire herd (sheep, chicken, cattle, etc.). We focus on looking at overall herd health.

There are many positive outcomes from better meat quality, to increased fertility for breeding with chiropractic care.

Charge is per hour, not per animal.

Please see policies for more information.

  • The nervous system controls many systems in the body, including the reproductive, skeletal, muscular, and endocrine system, just to name a few. Chiropractic facilitates health and decrease any interferences in the body.

Why people want to get their animals adjusted:

    -Wellness / preventative care
-Pain (neck, back, pelvis, extremity, etc.)
    -Abnormal gait
    -Mobility issues
    -Injuries
    -Weakness
    -Tension
    -Anxiety
    -Allergies
    -And so much more!

  • Nope! These appointments are called wellness or maintenance visits. Animals need every bone, muscle, tendon, and ligament to function properly. Having proper motion in the spine, allows animals to have better movement, have a lower injury risk, allows the animal to respond to stress and heal in a timely manner, and perform at a higher level.

  • There are two forms that are required to be filled out before an appointment can be scheduled:
    - A veterinarian referral form is required
-The owner must fill out the intake paperwork
    Small Animal Intake Form
    Medium/Large Animal Intake Form

Once both forms are completed, our practice will review the information and reach out to you set up an appointment.

  • Yes. Wisconsin requires a vet referral before we can evaluate your furry friend. If your veterinarian has more questions or wants to know more about chiropractic care, we would be happy to consult with them.

If the owner provides Atlas with their vet’s name + office name, Atlas can contact and request this form from the animal’s vet for you (the owner); otherwise, the owner may forward this form to their vet too!

  • We come to where the animal is located. This allows your animal to feel comfortable in their barn or home environment!

Please have your animal ready 10 minutes prior to your appointment time.

Dog or cat: It is best to use a room that has plenty of space for the animal to move around for evaluation. A carpeted room or having a rug available is best.

Cats: Make sure that they are contained before our arrival.

Horses or livestock: Please provide a dry level area to evaluate your animal. Lightly groom them and remove any mud.

All animals: No fly spray, show sheen, or hoof oil please.

  • Please text/call our practice for pricing. Fees can vary depending on the species and number of animals being adjusted. There may be travel fee based on distance.

  • X-rays are not required. However, if a condition warrants needing them during an evaluation or if an injury occurred, we would refer you to your veterinarian. If you have previous x-rays of your animal, providing them to us would be beneficial.

  • For the first visit, plan for 20-45 minutes (depending on the species). Also included in the visit is a history, exam, report of findings, and discussion of your goals for your animal(s)!

  • A lot can happen in a 6 month timeframe. If it has been over 6 months since your last visit, we will require that your animal receives a reactivation exam to provide the best care and make sure we are up to date with your animal’s health.

    *New Patient Exam Pricing Applies

  • Follow up visits are about 10-20 minutes long depending on the species.

Every animal is different. Recommended follow ups vary from animal to animal, based on age, activity level, and health status. Some animals have significant improvements after a single adjustment, while other animals see improvements after multiple adjustments.

If your animal is showing signs of an acute/recent flare up, seeking care immediately can better the chances of a positive outcome. Animals tend to heal faster and stay better longer when care is initiated early in the process.

Preventative care is a good idea for your animal’s health and overall being. We recommend wellness and maintenance visits every 4-6 weeks.

We are always evaluating your animal at every visit. We will adapt your care plan as necessary always keeping your goals for your furry friend in mind.

  • Yes and No! There are many great trained/certified doctors who post videos online when adjusting animals; however, there are many unqualifed people who are not properly trained who post videos.

Chiropractic adjustments, that are done by a trained AVCA animal chiropractor, are safe, effective, precise, and gentle.
